IN-BOARD TRAINING
This is our specialty and what we
have built our reputation on over the last 18 years.
Intensive Training Courses
that work! As many of our
customers call it “Boot Camp” for dogs.
Families from all over SA have sent
their dogs to us for the various Training Courses.
Why is this Training Solution so
popular? We have courses
that suit any dog! No matter what age breed or size!
Let’s face it with today’s busy
lifestyle who really has time to commit to a regular training
regime. To train your own dog takes consistant effort and
repetition, repetition, repetition. For
many of us it is hard work setting the
Foundation Behaviours and
never mind when we fail to join a puppy class and suddenly need to
sort out a now totally disobedient “teenager”.
In group lessons there is a
definite phenomenon of explosive start and fizzled out finish.
Many people never make the
full 8 week course and definitely don’t do their homework.
So In-Board Training is the
solution.
Your dog is trained on a daily basis
with regular sessions throughout the day. Once the training is
completed, your dog's abilities are demonstrated to you and you and
your family, are taken through the commands step by step.
We need commitment from ypu,
Included is a follow up program with more lessons over a
period of time, which is advisable and very important.
We are Dog trainers not miracle
workers, the training we do will last if you follow up at home and
we transfer the pack leadership skills to you.
If
your dog has behavioral problems In-board training is often the only
way of creating a new pattern as the home environment and family are
generally the root of the problem. Remember
dogs learn by association and it is those associations with you that
we need to change. The
commitment level to training and interaction time is lower than with
lessons.
To get the most out of your
dog we advise that you complete
the follow up lessons.
Reasons to consider In-Board Training?
Time
- most people don't have time to train their dogs properly or to
commit themselves to weekly lessons
Problem Dogs
- behavioral problems need an experienced hand and thus through time
and education, negative behavior can be modified.
Not Physically Capable
- some dogs are left too late and are beyond the average person’s
physical control.
Intensity of Training
- In-Board is intensive and therefore we achieve far more in a
shorter space of time particularly in Protection Training.

Personal Protection and Obedience combination
–
for dog from 1 year old
Protection Training is done in combination with Obedience Training.
It is to be noted that not all dogs have the same genetic
disposition, temperament or physical ability. Although we aim to
meet a standard some dogs do not become "Man stopper" material but
are an effective deterrent and an essential early warning system.
In Protection Training we begin by enhancing your dogs natural
protective instincts and can develop it right through to high level
Police work.
The correct breeds must be chosen. Not
all dogs have the
temperament
for high level training. Most
dogs can have their natural protective and territorial instincts
developed but do not have the strength of character to handle
advanced training.
We cannot guarantee the outcome of the training nor the
effectiveness as much is dependant on your ability to handle the dog
and the ability to control the
environment.
It is important that follow up training is completed.
Evaluating your dog’s temperament and attitude to your family
is of utmost importance.
Take special care in evaluating your dog’s attitude to children.
Do not train family dogs
which have any temperament faults and be honest in your assessment.
Do not cover up any issues of bad temperament. Dogs which are
already good with the family and are of correct breeding will not
alter in personality.

The Process
Pre-Training
You will be provided with a booklet
via e-mail which will brief you on all you have to prepare for your
dog coming home, rules that need to be set and family dynamics that
need to be sorted out. It is
important that this is worked through before collecting your dog as
it will give you insight into why we have trained
your dog in certain ways and what we will expect from you at
the handover.
Training
We will keep you updated on the
training progress.
Handover
This process is
proberly
the most important part of this whole dynamic.
Please allow us about 2 hours
of dedicated time with your family. It
is important that the whole family is involved and that each
individual’s dynamics are worked through.
We will take you through the
training step for step and also discuss behavioral issues and give
you a program to work on.
Follow-up
We will not be able to teach you
every thing in one go, so it is important that we get together and
go through anything you forget and make sure your handling skills
are up to scratch. Developing
pack leadership skills is important.
The focus is on the handler in follow up training
Stumbling blocks to your decision
process:
Will my dog remember me?- We have
never had a problem with dogs not remembering their owners.
Shouldn't I be involved in the Training? -
Often the problem is your relationship and associations
with the dog. This makes it
difficult for you to modify behaviour.
Dogs learn better with an
experienced hand and when the new behaviour is deep rooted it makes
it easier for you to take over and follow through.
Some dogs do initially but bonding takes place quickly with the trainer. For some, separation anxiety and the inability to cope without their owner is a major problem and allowing them to work through this is part of the behaviour modification process and absolutely necessary for the mental development of the dog. We have had a lot of success in modifying separation anxiety.
